LegaSum and QuickBooks

Keep your books in QuickBooks.
Collect the money here

Your books can live here now — an American chart of accounts, in dollars — but we are not asking you to switch yet: there is no bank feed, sales tax is a rate you type, and there is no US price for bookkeeping. What works fully today is the invoice and the payment — so run both, and let QuickBooks stay where your accountant expects to find it.

Building

“Can I replace QuickBooks with this?” — not yet, and here is exactly what is left

The ledger is American now. Create a company in the United States and you get an American chart of accounts in dollars — assets in the 1000s, accounts receivable, retained earnings, sales tax payable as a liability, and separate FICA lines for the employee and employer shares. It is not another country’s chart translated: the numbering follows US convention, and sales tax you pay on a purchase is booked as an expense, because sales tax you pay is not recoverable here.

Five things are still missing, and each of them is a reason not to switch yet. Sales tax is not calculated for your jurisdictions — the accounts exist, the engine does not. There is no bank feed: you import the statement file your bank exports. There are no 1099s. Payroll does not run a US cycle: there are FICA accounts to post to, but nothing computes the withholding. And there is no US price for bookkeeping yet. Your EIN does go on the company and onto its invoices.

We would rather lose the sale than the argument three weeks in. The full account of where it stands is on the front page, above the sign-up button rather than beneath it.

What you stop paying

No subscription. No invoice count. Nothing on an invoice that is never paid.

QuickBooks Free sends 2 invoices a month. The third one puts you on a plan — $38 a month for Simple Start, $456 a year, whether or not anyone pays you.

2 invoices a month is not a business. It is a trial that does not expire — and the moment you outgrow it, the price is the full price.

Creating a company here is free and stays free. We take 0.9% of money that actually arrives, and nothing else.

$0 a month

No plan to be on, no tier to outgrow, and no renewal date to diary.

No per-user seat

Add your bookkeeper, your partner, your accountant. The bill does not move.

Nothing on an unpaid invoice

We charge on money that moved. An invoice that goes nowhere costs you our chasing, not your cash.

Refunds come back

Refund a customer and our share goes back with it.

QuickBooks plan price read from Intuit’s pricing page on 23 September 2026. Their promotional price is lower for the first three months; the figure above is the regular one, because that is the one you pay.

The cheapest way to get paid

Take the bank transfer. It is not close.

A card in the United States costs 2.9% + $0.30 with no ceiling. A bank transfer costs 0.8% capped at $5. Our 0.9% is the same either way — this is Stripe’s side of the bill, and it is the one you can actually move.

InvoicePaid by cardPaid by bankYou keep
$500$14.80$4+$10.80
$1,200$35.10$5+$30.10
$5,000$145.30$5+$140.30
$20,000$580.30$5+$575.30

What it costs you that a card does not

  • Four business daysThe money is not instant. Two days is available at 1.2% instead of 0.8%, with no ceiling — which is usually worse than waiting.
  • It can fail after it looked paidInsufficient funds surface after the amount has shown up. Stripe pulls it back and charges $4.
  • Disputes are finalA consumer has 60 days, and a lost bank dispute cannot be appealed. A card dispute can at least be contested.
  • Your customer authorises a mandateThey sign in to their bank once and approve the debit. It is one extra step, and it happens once.

So for $200 to somebody new, take the card. For $5,000 to a customer you know, take the transfer and keep the $140.30. Both are on every invoice; you are not choosing once.

So why use us at all

Three reasons, and none of them is price

  • Nobody counts your invoicesQuickBooks Free stops at 2 a month and Simple Start is $38 a month from the third. Ours starts at nothing, stays there until somebody pays you, and has no number in it.
  • Your accountant gets in. Free.Intuit’s own list of what QuickBooks Free leaves out begins with Accountant access — and Simple Start at $38 a month is where you buy it back. Here, inviting your bookkeeper or accountant is free, on every account, with no seat to pay for and no number to reach. They see the books, not a screenshot you emailed them.
  • Free is a tool with nobody in itThat is the difference in one line: they give you software and you do the work. We do the work, and the software is how it gets done.
  • The customer is one record, not twoThe invoice, the deal it came from and the chasing are the same records. You are not keeping a CRM in step with an accounting package by hand, and there is no sync to break at month end.
  • The money lands in your own accountStripe verifies you once and pays out directly. We take our share of what moved and nothing else — no monthly minimum, no per-user seat, no contract to leave.
Running both

What that actually looks like

  • Invoice hereBuild it from your product catalog, send it, and let the pay button do the collecting.
  • Get paid hereCard or bank transfer into your own account. The invoice closes itself.
  • Book it thereExport the month as CSV — journal entries, with the account and the entry number beside each line — and post it in QuickBooks, or hand the file to whoever does your books. Your accountant keeps the system they already know.
  • Leave wheneverInvoices, invoice lines, journal entries and your customer and supplier records download as CSV from inside the product, for any date range. Receipts are not in the bulk download yet, and we say so rather than let you find out on the day you leave. There is no contract and nothing to cancel.

When there is a bank feed and a US price for bookkeeping, the third step stops being necessary and switching becomes a real question. We will rewrite this page then, with the same arithmetic.
