Pricing

You pay for work done.
Never for access

Creating a company is free and stays free. There is no plan, no per-user seat and no minimum, and there is no month where you pay us for the privilege of logging in. What costs money is a thing that happened: a payment that arrived, or work we did for you.

Today that is the payment, and the books where we keep them. Anything we add later is priced the same way and turns up on this page — the rule does not change because the list grows.

Live

Taking payments

0.9% of each amount paid, plus the card fee from Stripe. No monthly fee for payments, no minimum, no lock-in, and no charge on an invoice that is never paid.

$1,000 invoice

$300 to LegaSum, plus Stripe’s card fee. The rest lands in your own account.

Paid by transfer

Nothing to us. We only charge where we carry the payment.

Never paid

Nothing to us. A chased invoice that goes nowhere costs you our time, not your money.

Refunded

Our share goes back with it.

Building

Keeping your books, in the United States

The books are American now: a chart of accounts in English, numbered on US convention, in dollars. What is not here yet is the price, and we would rather say so on the pricing page than in the small print: a US company cannot subscribe today, so there is no US bookkeeping price on this page.

What is already decided is the rule it will be priced by: 30% of what an accountant charges for the same work, from a published reference list, rounded down, never more. Not a share of your current bill — a share of a price anybody can look up. The rule is not new; it is what we already bill by where we do keep books.

  • From the cheapest, not the averageReference prices are ranges. We calculate from the lowest one in the range; calculating from the highest would make our own price higher and the comparison an advertisement.
  • The list is published and datedSo we can answer what the price was on the day you bought. Version 2026-09-22.
  • Rounded downNever more than the 30% that was promised.
The proof

The rule is not a slogan. Here is what it produces.

There is nothing to buy here yet — a US company cannot subscribe, and this page says so above. But the rule is already decided, so you can check what it will cost before you ever have to trust us on it. These are published fixed prices for the same work, read on 23 September 2026.

  • From the cheapest, not the averageReference prices are ranges, and we calculate from the lowest published one we can find. Bench’s next tier is $399, Bookkeeper360 starts at $399, and 1-800Accountant’s bookkeeping plan is $469. We use the $199. Bench charges $2,880 a year for the same thing, and 1-800Accountant’s entry plan is $3,588. We use the $1,000. Calculating from the highest would make our own price higher and the saving look bigger — an advertisement dressed as arithmetic.
  • And what the cheapest one requiresA lowest price is only the lowest for whoever qualifies for it. Their $199 tier is for businesses under $250,000 a year; above that their regular plan is $399. If that is not you, the saving is measured against a bigger number, not a smaller one — so the figures above are the conservative version.
  • Rounded downNever more than the 30% that was promised. The figure in the third column is computed by the same function that bills, not typed in beside it.
  • Not a CPA’s feeThese are bookkeeping and tax services doing the same work, because that is the work we do. We are not a CPA firm, and the section below says what that means.

The limit

What we are not

LegaSum is not a CPA firm. We do not audit, review or compile financial statements, and we do not issue any report that carries assurance — in the United States those are acts reserved to licensed accountants. What we do is the work underneath: keeping the books, preparing the figures, and handing them over in a form your accountant can sign off.

We do not file US tax returns on your behalf. If that changes, the new boundary will be on this page in the same words, because the honest version of a price is the one that says what it does not include.
